Don’t feel you have to ditch your story (unless you really want to)

Don’t throw your story away unless you want to…its about to become useful (those theories that you must put your story down are such old hat)! Like a kaleidoscope creates a new pattern every time we shake it, when we operate from the void of all creation, new patterns emerge in every moment and, from them, we derive meaning and insight. The story we have chosen to preserve about ourselves includes bits and pieces of all those preferences we have expressed across the years…books and films we dived into, nuggets of things that attracted our attention, places we travelled, small details, conversations, hardships that helped make us who we now realise we are, personal traits that bobbed up time and time again until we knew they were important…all held waiting for us to thread onto a new strand of understanding at some unforeseen moment in the future, only to fall off the thread and be recycled for another day just as quickly (nothing need be turned to concrete anymore and our story is retained as a much more fluid thing than we remember it ever being before). A week in Wales day one: “Pause – Rewind – Play”

A subtle change in geography for a week has gifted me an action replay of the changing season from woody Winter into vividest Springtime. It makes me realise how much we get to enjoy that moment of pure, poised potential when we stop rushing forwards all the time; to appreciate that unique moment of held-breath before exhalation, of dynamic stillness “just before” something occurs, when the possibility of it “happening” first makes itself known and yet hasn’t…yet. Like a delicious pause in the progression of our own evolution, we get to hold both the “before” and “after” in the same moment, a perfect dovetail joint of both and to know all of it as a complete picture, just as Source gets to experience it, outside of time and space. We get to sense the absolute perfection in all of it; all the variables, the possibilities, the before and afters, the stages in between. Our lives are a continuous progression of such moments of pure potential…if we but knew how to recognise them (as Nature does her best to show us)… Continue reading

For the love of them

When I first started to produce art for a living, sheep were my chosen subject so often that I became known in some circles as ‘the sheep painter’. All my life, I’ve had a special place in my heart for … Continue reading

The river (always) tells its story

This is just a small aside, an observation that felt too quietly significant to let it just slip by. On my walk along the rivers Whitewater and Blackwater in mid December (very close to where the White intersects with the … Continue reading

The opportunist photographer

Many of my very best photos and most successful paintings of all have arisen out of completely opportunist moments – the ones that birth out of the fact that you are aware enough, and living in the moment enough, to … Continue reading

Keeping your balance

This morning, I woke feeling really off balance; though its been creeping up on me for a few days (probably not helped by the multiple solar flares that have been taking place over the Bank Holiday…). My muscles hurt, limbs felt … Continue reading
