Little wren

All kinds of realities can look as real as anything as we proceed through our human existence; we are all surrounded by them, every day, but when we keep hurting ourselves because of them, we can be sure they are a fiction of some kind…perhaps one that is so long-running that we don’t even remember anything different. They can be as convincing as anything we have ever seen, made all the more potent through the tug of nostalgia and familiarity. When they are a false reality in our experience, and they suddenly dissolve, we don’t go to pieces with that circumstance but, rather, that dissolution is what it takes to end the repeat cycles of self-destruction….perhaps even those repeated across many lifetimes. We stop hurling ourselves and hurtling mindlessly towards things that don’t serve us, in search of what we have fixated upon as “what we need to perpetuate in order to survive”. As is sometimes the case before illusory worlds fall apart (as we are seeing happen right now in our world-politics…), the illusory reality sometimes has to be stepped up to become even more overtly unnatural than ever, in order for us to “get it” and move on. Such a moment is what proceeds the moment of realisation…when we, as it were, wake up to what is real and swiftly find our way back to ourselves.

This tale of extreme optimism was “told” to me by a little wren just the other day… Continue reading

Phases of the Moon

We can lose touch with the thread of “who we meant to be” as the cloth of life becomes ever more wooly with the friction of circumstance and it can be so useful to reconnect with that most pristine of golden fibres; the one that led us to want to be here at this place and time in our collective evolutionary story, contributing our all-important piece to the tapestry. Working with phases of the moon has been such a powerful mechanism for carrying out such an overview; so much so that I want to share what I learned from an extraordinary book on this topic. Acknowledging the relationships we have

Sometimes acknowledging the relationships we have can be a beautifully simple yet powerful thing to do; transformative in its way… Continue reading

Becoming

I have just turned fifty in the last week; something which I have approached with unbridled optimism and even excitement (none of the woe and sardonic humour that most people seem to apply) yet it is a formidable portal, nonetheless. As it approached, I seemed to garner my unseen arsenal of personal strengths about me as through preparing to wear them all in a new and no-longer apologetic way. It felt like that season of watching the fruit spring from where the blossom had once been and I’ve been smacking my lips on how ripe that all feels; how I relish the opportunity to wear all the deeper, stronger colours of myself and be all that I am without hiding any of it anymore. A week into stepping into what feels like the lush garden of my fifties and I am still ambling around bare-foot, touching all the trees, wearing a Mona Lisa smile upon my lips…

Sharing thoughts on several midlife transitions I am currently navigating; all of them proving to be as fascinating as they are unchartered territory. Continue reading

To walk visible…at last

Was your fierce teenage femininity woken up and crystallised by Emily Brontë’s “Wuthering Heights”? Mine certainly was. I know I’ve thought of re-reading “Wuthering Heights” many times over the years – what stopped me, caused hesitation? Did I fear disappointment with what engaged me so as a girl like when you try to visit the most magical books of childhood and they’re just not the same, am I more squeamish of the dark than I used to be, or was it the thought of comparison…with where I am now…that I most dreaded? For, where is my inner Cathy, where are my wild moors; have I sold my life out to the Lintons, made nice and put wild plaything away? Or am I still promising them to myself “tomorrow”? Continue reading

Unreservedly whole

While we continue defending the feminine (like she needs to be defended…), championing her like she has been wronged, we remain completely out of balance. While our masculine aspect is still charged with any wrongdoing, and while he is commissioned with taking on what ails the so-called struggling feminine who supposedly needs “rescuing”, he will be condemned to hunting down and nailing dragons for all eternity in order to “prove himself”. This makes him unavailable to meet with the feminine in the “place” where he can take off his armour and come into full union with her; there will always be another task to be done and he will be forever distracted, absent, preoccupied, guarded. In order to meld fully, the unconditional surrender of all issues between these aspects needs to occur; and the bridge between them needs to be a motion of at once stepping forwards and reaching out to receive in both cases. A decommissioning of all reasons to be other than this bridge, with each other, from that moment forwards, needs to occur unreservedly; no more “buts…” (read on). Continue reading

Mixing up the wool with the silk

When we finally get to land in that place we have been circling yet never quite managed to get “in” to, we find that a great many things alter though the change in perspective may be subtle. With no expectations, no baggage, we simply become that divinely inspired meeting point of all that we are in the purely-creative pinpoint of each moment of self-exploration; one moment after another, ceaselessly rebirthing ourselves. Even if we have nothing to show for it but ourselves, we can never fail at this task and it will only ever lead us more swiftly and consistently towards our highest truth. Even if we seem to constantly change our minds or the direction we are heading in; even when we stop and start, backtrack, hesistate or take the slower, less obvious, route than other people seem to be taking, we are always in the process of creating our own greatest masterpiece or travelling our most divine path, right here and now if it is guided from this pin-point place where all our aspects meet like an internal compass of the heart. When the route we choose is all about following our own path and not about the distractions or collection of particular stop-offs we feel we “have” to make, we get to a place that is uniquely ours and which delivers something we were needing in that very moment, even though this may not be what we thought it would be. When we discover that we now have every choice at our fingertips…in fact, we can get our hands dirty with the stuff of life just as much as we want to from now on, but only in order to have some fun at being human and nothing to do with the old “slog and grind” that made it seem necessary or even better to go the long-hard way about doing anything, we dare to immerse ourselves in life without fear of being dragged back into the old ways of suffering and sacrifice. If things that used to feel just so important suddenly arn’t calling out to us any more, that’s fine; in fact its probably great. Think of it as a white noise switching off so we can better hear a brand new melody on the wind… Continue reading

Thinking positive…every day

For those of us who struggle to remain grounded, or who find themselves in pain whenever they are, the new way of being that is now fully available (you’ll need to read the post to know what this is…) starts to show us the light at the end of that tunnel…as we feel our ways towards our own personal methods of keeping that positive spin going, within that heavier-seeming thing called “life” or “physicality” with which we struggle so. The word “spin” is no accident here because it’s the joy, laughter, music, good company, creativity, love of beauty, enthusiasm, desire to keep moving and mixing things-up…whatever…that keeps the high-vibe movement stirring in the midst of what might otherwise feel too leaden and stagnant to be dealing with. It’s what spirals us out of the heaviness…even whilst we are “in” our most human form and we can summon these things up at any moment as our go-to survival kit. Believe me, it does get better, easier, more instinctive and, yes, more self-sustaining when we keep tuning-in to these personal methods of up-spiralling more so than allowing ourselves to sink in the mud. Sometimes, when we start to ground more, the proverbial sh*t seems to hit the fan more than ever…but that’s just something we need to be prepared to ride through, keeping that same positivity going, in order to get through what is only needing to be cleared to make way for the new. I’m deep in that territory right now (and then some) and yet I find myself more boyant than ever before; bizarre yet true…. Continue reading

Life beyond karma

Life beyond karma feels like switching to making digital art after many years of painting. Its like using only the best, most enlightened bits of your experience to make the picture of your choice without having to labour and revisit or recycle what feels done with, including all those early “mistakes” that you are striving to make good of. This and many more observations of what it feels like beyond the impulses and convoluted agendas and layering of the karmic experience… Continue reading

1000 stories, a single shared ending

What does Sheherazade have to tell us about where we are now, at the end of “1001 nights” of human history? Are we ready to face a new dawn together or do we throw ourselves back into a perpetual re-run of all those same old stories with their oh-so predictable endings? When this particular story came up for me just so powerfully again, having been such a long-running companion throughout my life, I found myself sitting up and taking note of what it had to tell me about how we are holding a whole new kind of an ending in the palm of our unified hands. Both the masculine and feminine aspects have to be prepared to face up to the fact there are no new endings to the stories they have both already heard; they can only move on by overcoming each of their fears (both equally vaid…yet together, they neutralise) creating a brand new story, together. Continue reading
