Lets sort this out, what are “yin” and “yang”?

“Yin and yang” – I talk about them such a lot but what are they in our everyday lives, beyond some abstract idea or a symbol we see daubed on the side of camper vans and on people’s tattoed flesh? Well … Continue reading

Consciously creating with the Ninth Wave

How do you adequately convey to people “I consider this book to be extraordinarily important” without saying so in terms that are either too general or personal? In fact I consider it to be one of the most significant things … Continue reading

Seeing the world

Its a classic time of year for me to be adding a load of eye-catching nature pictures to my newsfeed following long winter walks. To those of my friends who don’t live in my part of the world, or even a similar climate (and there are several), it may seem as though I live in a completely DIFFERENT world, but I don’t…not really.

I started doing an online photography course yesterday and I loved it when the teacher described how she saw a feather hanging off a branch in a pubic garden and pounced on it with her camera. Her friend said to her “How did you SEE that?” and she replied “How did you NOT?” I’m just the same and, like her, I would have then spent the next half hour angling different shots at this feather while my friend scuffed her feet around wondering when we were going for some lunch – I do that to my family all the time – but its not that I’m trying to force the beauty out of a subject. Its already there…its everywhere, its just a case of being receptive to it, to really see it, to notice it wherever it presents itself. Continue reading

The yin-yang garden

This is all the same winter garden as experienced during a period of less than three hours, first in day and then in night. Notice how the deep dark velvets and jewel tones sing out mostly in the daytime, the … Continue reading

The song that is most sweet in the dark

On the night of the full super moon, a robin sang sweetly in my garden for the hour until the moon peaked. It began in darkness and then, the cloud mass had begun to break-up and to separate, dissolved into wisps. The newly appeared and dazzling moon looked like it was racing through a cotton-wool landscape or materialising and dematerialising in the centre of a flower that just kept emerging, throwing new petals out of its own void. It was like watching the universe take shape; something birthed out of nothing and, all the time, this sweet monologue of bird song, the seventh dimensional sound that was once the “word” that birthed it all. What made this song so powerful, so compelling, so “stop right there” in my tracks in order to hear every note of it, for all the night was bitterly cold? It was like I was receiving a download, a melodious morse code, that some aspect of myself was busily deciphering. What was so compelling was that its pure beauty came out of darkness; was this incongruous melody that cut through the blankness as though asserting “I choose to make from all this dark potential THIS”…. Taking the route least travelled

When unexpected, inconvenient, things happen, whether these are major events or the relatively trivial, its an opportunity to adapt…to forge glorious new routes…to be fully present…to appreciate our own curiosity and the courage to go off-piste…and to notice all the unexpected gifts along the way. Via the oddly winding detour of the path least travelled, we may seem to have had to go much further/longer/harder than by the “conventional” routes that others choose, or even to take a step backwards for a while, yet we are rewarded with a stronger sense of going somewhere than if we just sat there hoping for something to shift or to “get somewhere” we believe we want to go, like someone stuck in a gridlock traffic being shunted along bumper-to-bumper yet with little say-so over their own progress. The end of any journey, when we seem so near and yet so far from some hoped-for destination, can feel the most challenging of all and yet, approached mindfully, this is when we get to appraise how glad we are that we came this particular way, owning the magnitude and perfection of our own unique path. This realisation, rather than “arriving anywhere” per se, is the moment when we notice the bizarrely coherent joy of this lifetime’s winding journey, however many seeming detours it has taken us on… (read more). Getting over the ultimate catastrophe

What I had hit upon…what indeed we are talking about here is a mass case of post-traumatic stress disorder that we all share and which variable triggers in our environment (that is, anything we have come to associate with “catastrophe” at the deepest levels) may well being “playing” inside of us like notes on a piano as these memories ask to be shown to the light of our consciousness so we can heal this planet as one. If we are alive, here and now, we are (at DNA level) survivors of this unthinkable cataclysm that took place in near-history (so, first off, congratulate yourself for that!) and yet it has remained completely suppressed by the orthodox version of history that we are taught and also by our own bodies, which have in effect volunteered to bury the information because it was just too painful to be seen. Such locked away trauma has a tendency to play out through our unconscious behaviour patterns and so-called irrational fears and, sooner or later…in order to heal…must see the light of day by being made conscious. On the insistence upon proof

Last night, I watched “The man who knew infinity” and am still unravelling the many threads that this film started unpicking for me but one thing I noticed is how I now find I am able to call a truce with left-side pursuits such as maths and science just as soon as I notice that their innate process of using and following intuition and of following a path towards god or source is no different, really, than mine. Where the rift has occurred – for me, perhaps for the whole modern world – has been where left-brainedness has become synonymous with this absolute insistence upon demonstration of every step that took you to that brand new place using preexisting yardsticks; that nothing is considered anything in this current world paradigm (which is, I believe, about to change) without irrefutable proof first which is, in most cases, putting the cart before the horse. One of my favourite quotes from Einstein is “No problem can be solved from the same level of consciousness that created it” and I believe this as a fundamental start point to all problem solving , in light of which demanding “proof” is like a noose dragging you back inside that old paradigm and holding you prisoner there. The inspired and bliss-filled freehouse of the mind

I used to ask “why is it that, when I paint, thoughts of uncomfortable situations from long ago and old troubled relationships with people I haven’t seen for years sometimes float through my head?” They are no longer loaded at … Continue reading
