Two exhibitions: a day of unlikely marriages

This week, I visited two art exhibitions in Oxford that have been in my diary for a long time. At the first, I was greeting on entry by the immense William Morris tapestry “The Attainment” with its depiction of the … Continue reading

New perspectives on a woman’s prime

My mother always used to say that she never felt a day over 27 and, true to form, lived bizarrely devoid of any sense of being a particular age right up until she was diagnosed with cancer of the liver … Continue reading

Flying high, knowing how to land

“Heaven is not a place, and it is not a time. Heaven is being perfect. And that isn’t flying a thousand miles an hour, or a million, or flying at the speed of light. Because any number is a … Continue reading

Newness breezes in

This morning, I feel like Virginia Woolf in ‘The Hours’ (which I rewatched just the other night); with misted look in my eyes, I find I want to announce “I believe I may have a first sentence”. And this is … Continue reading

Life is full of openings…and other wondrous stories

Something happened this weekend that took the lid off a box of stories I hardly knew I was harbouring; quite a bounty, as it happens, and with some distinct themes running through them all. The reason that they surfaced and … Continue reading

Beautiful simplicity

It came to me on a new wave of understanding, in my bleary-eyed state of awakening this morning, that at the very core of everything that I Am, I am ‘a simplifier’ and even the realisation of this brought new … Continue reading

Out of the cave – into the light

As a complete aside to the things that usually inspire me to write – or is it – I feel suddenly lead to share that I went to see ‘The Croods’ movie this week with my daughter (her choice, and … Continue reading

Living in ‘the now’…or updating your status?

The subject of this post has almost  made it to the pages of this blog before…but clearly wasn’t quite ready until suddenly, this morning, it became an irresistible topic that I wanted to share. Why? Because, at a time when … Continue reading
